Job Training

If you’re in middle school, you can join Job Training in DAVA’s Computer Art Lab or Studio Arts.  You don’t need to be an experienced artist – you just need to be creative and willing to work hard while you share your stories and ideas.  You will make art alongside students from many different cultures and learn important job and leadership skills while you prepare for work or college.  Film short movies, build giant sculptures, and paint cool murals!

Job Training in the Arts and Technology is designed to boost students’ art, communication, and life skills.  Classes focus on teamwork, respect, personal responsibility, and problem-solving while expressing your unique voice.

Job Training is a free program at DAVA.  Students can choose to join either the Studio Arts class or the Computer Art Lab, and both groups showcase their finished artworks in the DAVA Gallery.  Job Training students commit to coming 2 days per week, Monday/Tuesday or Wednesday/Thursday.  As part of job training, students earn a small stipend for full participation.

Stop by DAVA for an application to join!

Studio Arts

Studio Arts

Job Training in the Arts uses in-depth, process-driven projects to teach students about the working world.  Youth create art with staff mentors and inspiring guest artists while learning a wide variety of art techniques, including drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and installations.

Computer Art Lab

Computer Art Lab projects merge art and technology, creating a valuable skill base in current media like Photoshop, Scratch, Sketch Up and film-editing software.  Developing creative capacity in young artists is key – from there, they will drive strong communication skills through better design, animation, and film.

Computer Art Lab

We learn long-term life skills that we can use outside of DAVA, like thinking before you act, being respectful, and not giving up.  I feel like I will know what to expect when I get a job.
