Winter Feast
DAVA’s Annual Holiday Show & Sale
Start the season of giving with original art by DAVA Youth and local artists. DAVA is a wonderful destination for handmade holiday gifts! Proceeds from this exhibition support DAVA’s free year-round art programs for kids in our northern Aurora community. DAVA is located at 1405 Florence Street, one block south of East Colfax Avenue in the Aurora Cultural Arts District. Please join us for a festive Opening Reception on Friday December 5th from 4 to 9 pm with a book signing by Sabe S. Kemer for her children book “Oh to Touch the Sky” illustrated by DAVA student Lelli Tenane, age 17.
Students in all DAVA programs are creating unique artworks in a wide range of mediums to share with you. High school students are creating paintings of winter feasts to go with a collection of functional ceramic dishes and cast porcelain sculptures for your winter celebrations. The Taste of DAVA, a recipe book written and illustrated by DAVA High School students will also be available. Middle school students designed T-shirts, stickers, buttons and greeting cards with origami, while others are using marbled clay to create sets of bowls. Younger students are using recycled paper to make paper clay baskets, framed art and stationary sets. Hanging ceramic wind chimes and ornaments will add to the selection.
Artwork by diverse guest artists include unique coffee cups and mortar and pestle sets by Kenyan born DAVA teacher Sheila Mungai and ceramic and woodblock prints by Grace Gutierrez. Find unique Eco prints and flower dyed fiber art by Debra Wilson or hand-crafted wooden cutting boards by David Haas Howard to make the perfect gifts. Wearable items include beaded jewelry and fiber items by Colombian artists duo Duendes Tejidos, wooden earrings by Damian Alcazar, and citrus jewelry by Taylor Stack. Find original stickers, keychains and something to add to your collection with miniature displays by DietNecromancerDesigns or mushroom shaped candles and stained-glass ornaments by Taylor Stack. Support women artists from the Toro Kingdom in Uganda by purchasing hand crafted baskets, aprons, toys and ornaments brought to us by Crazy Love Africa. Come support diverse artists from around the world! Everyone can find treasures to take home or to gift to loved ones.
The exhibition is free and open to the public Monday to Friday 10 am to 5 pm until December 19th. In addition, come celebrate the New Year with an Art Sale and Closing Reception for First Friday on January 2nd from 6 to 9 pm.
