4:00 pm Double Exposure

Double Exposure

The exhibit positions healthy responses to critical issues facing DAVA youth through artworks created for the annual wellness show–including the impact of media overload and divisive messaging in today’s world. Youth concerns are communicated through a variety of artistic media with the intention of educating the community. The exhibit opens to the public with a reception on Thursday March 30th from 4 to 7:30 pm and runs through June 9th, 2017. DAVA (Downtown Aurora Visual Arts) is located at 1405 Florence Street, one block south of Colfax in the Aurora Arts District. The inclusion of photographic processes coincides with the Month of Photography in Colorado.

Middle and high school students in the Job Training programs researched topics before deciding on ideas that impact them and the community. Through mixed media sculpture, posters and Zine design, they express ideas that are important to share. Topics this year include: the use of mindfulness to control stress; the effect of drugs on teens brains; fear and discrimination issues in the current political climate.

Students in the DAVA Open Studio explored photographic processes. Elementary students were introduced to the effects of nutrition and exercise on their body and brain. Older students discussed stress, nutrition, and heart health. A pinhole

Photography project with a class from the Community College of Aurora added to the

investigation of photographic processes.

All of DAVA’s exhibits are free and open to the public from 10 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday or by appointment. For more information about the exhibits email gallery@davarts.org

Downtown Aurora Visual Arts is a nonprofit arts organization whose mission is to strengthen the community through the arts with a primary focus on youth engagement. For more information about our programs, visit www.davarts.org or call 303 367 5886.
