In an economy that requires every organization to tighten their budgets, DAVA continues to serve our community by investing in our most valuable resource: young people. DAVA youth typically choose careers in fine arts, sciences, teaching, and design. This points to the achievements of competent, caring young people who are raising a new standard of excellence among their peers.

None of this would be possible without the support of donors who see the value of using the arts as a resource for our most vulnerable population: youth. While developing the imaginations of young people, we are also extending the school day, and, during the summer, extending the school year.

These are critical times for cultural institutions. While others may perceive the arts as a luxury, those of us working with young people see arts learning as a critical framework for youth development. DAVA models how arts education can be — a strengthening, guiding force for young people.
